I worked at Pepsi the summer of 1993, we dumped pallets of that shit down the drain. Nobody bought it, nobody drank it, and it was gross.

Regular cola is simple, it’s flavoring syrup that is brown in color, shit tons of high fructose corn syrup, phosporic acid, water and CO2. How do they make the brown stuff clear? It was probably invented by DOW chemical engineers with too much time on their hands.

Um, that’s not true...it was caffeine free and had added citrus. It tasted kind of like a much lighter version of lemon pepsi. It was gross, but I drank tons of it because my grandfather was a bottler.

I’m thinking of Crystal Pepsi which was clearly marked and intended to taste like cola yet be a clear liquid. I kinda remember Crystal from Pepsi but it never took hold. Squirt was the best product pepsi made. It’s just simple sugar, citrus flavoring and carbonated water.

Haha, this is so weird...it was St Louis BTW. If it was “Crystal from Pepsi’ The ‘from’ must have either not existed or was super tiny on the packaging. I distinctly remember it looking like the can on the left in the OP, but the Pepsi logo was smaller.

I know they say fads are cyclical, but clear beverages is one that I never thought would come back, considering almost no one wanted them the first time around.
I guess the motivations are similar. PepsiCo came out with it because of a craze for “natural” products - it was supposed to somehow make people think that soda was better for them, since it now looked just like water. They’re probably hoping it will work this time.

I liked Crystal Pepsi. Crystal from Pepsi was different, it was more like Sprite.
